Following my Spring Summer 2016 Clothing Essentials Guide, I have decided to do a post dedicated to SS16 accessories. If you’re in need of some inspiration, read on to find out what accessories to pair with your new spring purchases.
1. Statement Earrings
Forget about minuscule, understated stud earrings. This season is all about statement earrings – the bigger and bolder, the better. If you’re daring enough, stay away from matching sets. Mismatched earrings are the way to go for Spring 2016.
As of now, the choker is a necklace you should absolutely be stocking up on. Whether you’re decked out in a evening gown, or dressed down in a comfy t-shirt, chokers are an easy way to add character to any outfit. Fortunately, these necklaces have been on trend for awhile now, so you should (hopefully) already have a few in your jewellery collection.
Tip: If you’re thinking of purchasing a few new ones for the new year, look out for metallic or silk ones.
3. Head Wear
From jewelled tiaras to sporty headbands, head jewellery was seen all over the runway this season. Glam up your flirty summer dresses with a gold tiara, or dip your feet into atheleisure by sporting a cute headband out of the gym. Head jewellery may also help complete a summer up-do – think Blair Waldorf and her famous head jewellery collection.
4. White Bags
White bags are total wardrobe essentials, and designers evidently agree. Being one of the most prominent bag trends of SS16, the white bag is an accessory you should try to get your hands on ASAP (if you don’t already own one, that is). This neutral coloured bag goes with just about anything, making the purchase well worth your money.
5. Half-moon bags
Bucket bags are so 2015. Welcome the new year (season) with a new bag silhouette – the half-moon. These bags are going to be seen everywhere this season, so if you are in the market for a new bag, you know what to look out for.
Tip: Buy a white half-moon bag to save some extra cash – two trends in one bag. 😉
Backpacks are back, and just in time for all the spring break and summer travels. Backpacks are amazing travel bags; they leave both your hands free for lugging suitcases around and taking Instagram pictures. Backpacks are great not only for travel, but for everyday use as well – it is always more convenient to have both your hands free. They are stylish and give off a sporty vibe.
Tip: Investing in a leather backpack would be a good choice. Leather is always chic, and its timelessness just means it will still look good even after Spring Summer 2016 is over.
Good news for those who invested in mules last year – you now have an excuse to bring them back out again! These slide-ins have returned, and if you didn’t get one last year, now is the time to. Being ridiculously easy to wear, mules are perfect for a late-day. Also, you are not only limited to heels, flat mules can be found just about anywhere this season. They are a little more casual, and a lot more comfortable.
8. Lace-up & Mary Jane Shoes
This year, designers were obsessed with ankle detailing. Lace-up flats, platform sandals, and espadrilles were proudly featured along with Mary Jane-esque, ankle strapped, thick-heeled pumps. These delicate looking shoes give any outfit a feminine touch, which is perfect for the springtime.
9. Silver shoes
It comes as no surprise that the metal of the season is a favourite for footwear as well. They are a great option for those who find silver a little too daunting on tops and dresses. Silver matches with most colours, and will make your outfit look so Spring 2016.
Tip: Not sure how to style them? You will never go wrong with blue or black denim.
I hope this post gave you some insight on accessorizing for Spring and Summer 2016. Also, check out my Spring 2016 Shopping Guide for clothing inspiration. Stay tuned and follow for more fashion posts. 🙂
